Project 2 : SENSE OF PLACE
Project 2: Sense of Place
1 | Recap of Project 2
Starting from Week 8-10, we are assigned to create a design based on a place that we have visited before. In this project assignment, we need to include and explain the design principles that have been learning before. In order to capture the social and environmental characteristics, as well as the time effects, that will represent the interpretation of a particular location, the place becomes the main subject of the composition in which the design principles are implemented. Therefore, it is better to take fresh photos that remind us of the place that we wanted to portray.
2 | Design process
After carefully thinking on what things that can portray Malaysia, I decided to take several pictures that can be my visual references for my design. For this design, I choose to use the movement technique in order to portray the fast-forward city that has always been busy. Regarding the photos that I have attached below, I have used long exposure to show movement that took place as the picture was being taken.

Idea Exploration and Description
This is the rough sketch of the design of the artwork that I am going to make in this second project. The whole idea is influenced by my chosen place, which is Malaysia.

3 | Feedback given by the lecturer
- Week 8
- Interesting sketch and idea.
- Week 9
- Ms. Noranis advised me to not use dark bold outline as it can create a disconnected feeling towards the overall design.
- Week 10
- Remove or recolor the bold outline by using a slightly darker color of the ground color.
4 | Reflection
Overall, this project has given me an opportunity to explore Malaysia as I gather around picture references for my artwork. I was able to explore new ideas and expand my creativity on this artwork. This is because it took a while for me to think about Malaysia and what things that could represent the moment that I was in it. Thus, I am satisfied with how the artwork turns out while being able to explore a new range of possibilities in the creative process.
